Whale Watching in The Bay Of Fundy

We have been whale watching for some 10 years now.  This is where we started and we have been attempting to re-experience that first trip ever since--to no avail.  The last two trips to Digby Neck (Briar Island, actually) we have dropped from large boats to Zodiac dinghies.  These are small and fast and can get far out and change where they are a lot faster.  You can also get closer to the whales.  After wasting some time with a Minke whale ('grey-hound' of the sea) which is fast and not particularly interesting we--of course--found some Humpbacks.  The change this year is the video capture available on the digital camera.

Video clips

Now, I must apologize.  You could get sea sick just watching these as the little Zodiac is pitching on the ocean and I don't have two hands to hold on with.

In the first clip you see one of the humpbacks coming to the surface and you can clearly see and hear its spout (big breath) here (Windows Media about 800 kb).

In the second clip, you can see one of the 'money shots' photographers go after here (Windows Media about 800 kb)--and you can here one of other passengers go, "Got it!".   (Of course the ultimate non submerged money shot is of a humpback jumping out of the water.  Next time.  ;-))
